The Instant Heart Rate Android app is a great little application to get if you want to show off your phone to your friends and family. The ability to get your heart rate from your smart phone? Pretty cool idea if you ask me. The way the app actually works is ingenious in and of itself. What you have to do is hold up your finger to the camera and what happens is that the app will look for color changes when the camera lens has something pressed against it (in this case, your finger). It calculates the color changes that happen during your pulse and then it will calculate the amount of beats your heart pumps every minute based on the time of the color change on the lens. Obviously, you probably aren’t going to use this for medical purposes but maybe when you are working out or just wanting to show off your cool phone you will pull it out. The only con to this app is that it is pretty hard to determine how accurate the app actually is, but then again lets hope doctors aren’t using this as their only tool to monitor the pulse of the heart.
