Switchr App for Android Review
Android provides a means to switch between running apps. But it is a multi-step process. Switchr app for Android provides a more straightaway approach to move between open apps seamlessly. Yes, you can switch between running apps using a simple swipe gesture. You can get Switchr Android app for free. However, it is a beta version, and it becomes inactive once the full version is released. At the moment, you can sideload it by visiting the related XDA Developers thread and downloading the necessary APK file.
Switchr App Features
When Switchr app for Android is installed, all you got to do is to swipe in from the edges of the screen to move between open apps. When you first open the app, you’ll be presented with many tutorial slides on how to use it. Once it is done, you’re prompted to choose between two variants of app switcher function. Called ‘Switchr Flow’, one shows a coverflow animation that lets you see the complete list of open applications as you switch between them. The second one is a bit minimal and seems to mimic the Windows 8 theme. After trying out both the options, we preferred the first one even though personal preferences could vary.
To use it, when you have multiple apps open, swipe from the top-left corner of the screen to call upon the multitasking menu. By moving your finger on the screen, you can cycle through the list of open apps. The active option is automatically chosen when you pick your finger app. You can close apps by selecting one and swiping your finger down. Alternatively, clicking a proprietary icon at the top-right corner closes all open apps.
In terms of user experience, it is pretty easy to switch between apps. The option to put apps under white list or black list comes handy. The latter option let you totally ignore some apps so that they don’t appear in the menu at all. It is also possible to change the trigger area from left to right or decrease/increase the activation margin as required. One apparent downside is that Switchr uses quite a lot of RAM. The memory it uses increases with the number of active apps. If you need a reference, if you have five apps running, the app takes up about 30 MB RAM.
Conclusion
Switchr app for Android is a useful tool to switch between open apps in a seamless fashion. Simply swipe from the screen edges to call upon the service, and use gestures to navigate between open apps. The cover flow animation stands out. If your phone does not have enough RAM, it might slow down things a bit though. Verdict: Check it out.
