Quip App Features
Quip app for Android is a modern word processor that enables you to create beautiful documents on any device — phones, tablets, and the desktop. Further, it includes chat as its core feature. In other words, Quip combines documents and messages into a single chat-like “thread” of updates — making collaboration easy. Here messaging is essentially the collaborative tool that let multiple people communicate with each other while working on a document. What makes Quip different from Google Drive or QuickOffice is that it combines the document as well as the chat messages as a single threaded conversation. In a way, it is similar to how you send text messages; but what is different is that you can open and edit documents in a single swipe.
However, keep in mind that you got to login using your Google Account to edit the documents.
The UI is Quip for Android is neat and well organized. You can find all ‘available’ threads on the left panel whereas on the right is a list of all your active documents and folders. Creating a new folder is easy. Simply tap ‘create folder’ icon and you’ll be prompted to enter the folder name and choose its color. In order to create a new document, simply click on the ‘plus’ button on the lower-right corner of the document editor. Once the new document appears, you can choose whether to create a simple text document or a list.
On the downside, you can’t download the document as .doc or .txt files. You can only download it in PDF format. Also missing are some common formatting options typical of word editors.
Quip app is compatible with Android OS versions 4.0.3 or higher.
Conclusion
Quip app for Android is a useful document editor since it supports collaborative editing and it is available on other platforms. Creating and editing documents is easy. The USP of the app is that it combines the document as well as the chat messages as a single threaded conversation. It still lacks some aspects. But it does what it intends to do. Verdict: Check it out if you have not tried it out yet.
