Features
Pilots of the Dawn for iPhone has a classic vintage aesthetic that reminds you of Luftrausers. But despite its apparent similarity with the popular title, the game brings a brand new experience to shoot ’em up fans. If to cite a difference, Pilots of the Dawn game got different colors for day and night. The sprites used to represent aircraft and sea-ships can be clearly distinguished against the colored backgrounds. The animations are slick and smooth. The soundtrack is fun to listen to. Pilots of the Dawn for iPhone have three game modes: Endless, Daily, and Campaign. The last one can be only unlocked by scoring enough points in Endless mode. In Endless mode, you indulge in aerial and sea combat with enemy ships until you endure enough damage or crash into the terrain, hoping to rake up enough points before you die. Every day you’ll have a new challenge, therein bring the much needed variety to the game play. But the daily mission becomes unplayable until the next day, if you choose to go back to the main menu, which we found a bit annoying. As mentioned, you got 30 missions and they’re all different.
The controls are intuitive enough. But it takes a bit of practice to master its use. The controls the turn your plane clockwise/anti-clockwise can be found at the bottom of the screen. The gun will fire automatically and you got to time your turns for the bullets to actually hit the enemy ships. You can choose different aircrafts, each with its own features and abilities. It will take a bit of practice before you can fluently operate the different planes. Apart from unlocking newer and stronger planes, you can also upgrade the existing ones. Both these exercises will cost you coins. Don’t forget to fly your aircrafts up to earn power-up items, such as rapid-fire, repair kits, and shields. The game is stable.
Conclusion
Pilots of the Dawn for iPhone certainly reminds you of Luftrausers. But it got different colors of day and night, and you are given challenging daily missions to keep you interested. The controls take a bit of practice to get used to. The aircrafts can only be unlocked in a chronological order. It might frustrate few. The graphics is decent, while the quirky soundtrack is fun to listen to. Check it out if you are a fan of games such as Luftrausers and Vlambeer classic.
