Clips app for iPhone Review
Clips app for iPhone is Apple’s new photo and video editing application. With a few taps, it let you create and send a video message or tell a quick story with animated text, graphics and emoji, or music. Clips app can be downloaded free of cost from iTunes App Store.
Create Fun Videos
Clips iPhone app lets you create videos in real time using simple controls — no timeline, tracks or complicated editing tools. You can shoot live video and photos or add them from your library. It is easy to mute the audio, and adjust the length of your clips and reorder them. If you’re too tired or lazy to enter the text, just speak it out and the app will transcribe them for you. Captions are generated automatically as you speak and match the timing of your voiceover. Simply tap your title to adjust text and punctuation or add inline emoji. The app has 12 templates that you can try out. While the features works the way it is supposed to, the app is confusing and has a rather steep learning curve. In comparison, iMovie looks more user-friendly. When you fire up the app, you’ll see the various icons that let you add text, filters sticker, templates and music at the top. To the left of these icons is a drop down arrow that gives you access to folders of clips and images sorted by date. Next to the folder is a ‘+’ icon where you can start with a new clip. Take care to tap on the drop down arrow every time you want to start a new clip, else your new additions will get added to the older folder. A dedicated button to create a new clip would have made a difference here. You can find the preview of the current Clip in the working at the bottom.
Clips app for iPhone is not without its share of shortcomings. For example, you are required to keep the red button pressed down not until you have recorded the video footage you want, but until the software understands what you are saying. Releasing it prematurely will leave you with the text that was transcribed until then, and not necessarily the complete sentence.
Clips app supports multiple languages. It also let you share directly to Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and other popular social media sites.
Final Take
Clips iPhone app allows you to make fun videos to share with friends, family and the world. It has simple controls and all the typical features you’ll expect from such an app. But unlike iMovie, it got a rather steep learning curve. The UI layout hides some surprises. The lack out of a button that’ll let you create a new clip directly is perplexing. The transcribing feature also requires some refining. Multiple language support comes to the aid of non-English natives. The app is also stable. Overall, a not so serious photo/video editor app for Apple.
