ENYO Game for iPhone Review

| September 16, 2016 | 0 Comments

ENYO for iPhone is a tactical turn-based rogue like game that is about hook and shield combat. In the game, you’re supposed to grab your hook & shield and descent as Enyo, the Greek goddess of war, into an ever changing labyrinth to recover three legendary artifacts. You can get the game for free from iTunes.

Features

ENYO for iPhone looks fantastic due to Greek style art. If you’d ever read Greek mythology, the flat, black-silhouette-like figures that represent Enyo and her enemies will look familiar to you. The character sprites nicely contrast against the light beige floor and dark brown walls. Lava and spiked walls are easily recognizable. The animations are fluid, even though the movements appear a bit choppy owing to the rigid nature of characters. The soundtrack is fun to listen to, while the sound effects provide a nice finishing touch. Depending upon your skill levels, you can choose between two difficulty levels. It also has a Daily Challenge each day, in case you want to see how high of a score you can get on the set stage before it changes the next day. The tutorial comes handy to first time players. ENYO’s gameplay is based on the idea of indirect combat. Enemies can only be defeated by pushing or pulling them into burning lava pits or deadly spiked walls. You can see the hearts, which indicate how many hits you can take before you die, at the top of the screen. The skulls below the hearts show the number of enemies you’d killed and it is tallied up after every three moves for your score. If you run out of hearts, the game ends and you got to start all over again.

The controls in ENYO are a bit different, and might take a bit to get used to. ENYO has four different actions as indicated by the buttons at the bottom: Shield Bash, Hook, Throw, and Stun Leap. To move, you got to select Shield Bash and then drag your finger from Enyo to the direction you want to go. The Hook will let you pull enemies towards you. Throw allows you to throw your shield to push foes, while Stun Leap lets you do a leap that will stun adjacent enemies. When you perform said actions, the enemies move one square at a time. While playing the game, it is important to understand how each enemy moves and what they are capable of. This will help you to strategize better and improve your success percentage without getting yourself hurt. Even though ENYO is a free game, there are occasional video ads, which are a bit of an annoyance. You can purchase the full version without ads for $1.99. ENYO requires iOS 8.0 or later.

Conclusion

ENYO for iPhone is a fun and challenging roguelike game. Even though its levels are procedurally generated, the game feels repetitive at times. Replay value is average. The graphics is decent, so are the sound effects. The controls take a bit of practice to get used to. The ads can be a bit annoying. The game is also stable and responsive. Check it out if you’re a fan of roguelike games.
