If you are just looking for a writing tool that replicates the joys of using a typewriter, the free version of Hanx Writer for iPhone is cool enough and it replicates the typing experience. You can buy additional typewriters or buy the Writer’s Block Bundle which comes with both additional models and extra features.

Features

The onscreen keyboard is swift and receptive, though the perfect experience comes when you join it up with a Bluetooth keyboard. It brings with it the right clatters for when you are typing, in addition to the alternative to do away with the delete key for the real experience. Hanx Writer iPhone app takes away all hints of auto-correct or capitalizing things involuntarily too, which will take a bit of change for the clumsy typists amidst us but is pretty uplifting to see. The free version of the application gives you single typewriter to play with. It offers a pleasant fresh piece of paper, an automatic slide, and the characteristic click-clack you would anticipate from a typewriter. Modern conveniences like copy and paste, spell-check, and replace are all at your fingertips. The application even permits you to export your documents.

On the whole Hanx Writer for iPhone is a fancy word processing tool, free of distractions beyond the hypnotizing click of the keys. When you are done you can read your work on a screen that looks like typed on a fresh piece of paper. It’s a beautiful, crisp interface. Besides the free typewriter that is offered, you can also choose to buy the Hanx 707 or the Hanx Golden Touch, each offering a somewhat different font style much like a real typewriter. You can always check them out first too, before deciding on to make a purchase. It’s also possible to buy more text alignment options, colors, and pictures. None of it is crucial, but for the nostalgia fans out there it’s going to be quite enticing. The app requires iOS 7.0 or late and is optimized for iPhone 5, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus.

Conclusion

You don’t get that liberty when using Hanx Writer on your iPad except when you put your device in airplane mode first to get a little calm. It adds to the Hanx Writer experience when you use it like a real typewriter. You might mark these off as simple nostalgic fascinations, but unless you have ever played with a typewriter you cannot really judge for sure.
