Heads Up! Word Game for Android Review

| February 1, 2016 | 0 Comments

Heads Up! Game app for Android is a few packs of clue cards, a timer, and a score counter, and that’s it. There’s nothing else to the app, either. It shows clues, and it totals the score at the end of the round. It doesn’t track anyone’s individual score, it doesn’t keep a high score and there are no leader boards or achievements or additional difficulty levels to unlock. It is available for free download from Google Play.

Features

You can play on a phone in its upright orientation. You can play it in its flat orientation. But there are darn few games that acquire benefit of the phone’s little-known third gaming orientation: stuck to your forehead. Heads Up! app for Android is one of those games. The word game claims to have been created by the staff of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, but the brand might be a better description. It’s a reverse charades with one player holding up a clue and the rest of the players trying to communicate that clue to the first player. The phone displays the clue and keeps track of whether you guessed it, signaled by tilting the phone down or whether you passed and got another one, signaled by tilting the phone up. You have one minute to guess as many clues as you can.

Heads Up Word Game for Android Review

Heads Up! app for Android runs just fine on tablets as well, but don’t try to play it that way. The tablet gets heavy and you’ll look like an idiot holding it on your forehead. If the player with the phone guesses a clue, somebody scores a point. The game rules never really specify who scores the point, but it’s a party game and we’re all friends here. Work it out among yourselves. The game is grand at keeping track of which cards you got right and which cards you skipped and totaling the two, but it cannot keep track of scores between different players. You are going to have to pull out a piece of scratch paper and pen or pencil and write out individual scores. The app requires Android 4.0.3 and up.

Conclusion

One downfall of Heads Up! App for Android is it does not have a deck that is geared towards a young audience. Kids are welcome to play and can bring about a fresh level of leisure, but the categories are geared toward ages 13 and over. Kids could not play this game devoid of the help of adults. If younger kids are playing, the Act It Out deck is a good fit.
