Rebtel – Cheap International Calls for Android is unique in that you don’t need a WiFi connection to make a call. It basically allows you to make cheap and sometimes free phone calls to people around the world. It is like Viber, but without the texting functionality. Rebtel is free to use for the entire 2016. Users will be charged $1/month from 2017.

Features

Rebtel – Cheap International Calls Android app allows you to call other Rebtel users as well as other cheap internet-free international calls. In fact, this is what sets Rebtel apart, because for an inexpensive fee, you can make calls without a WiFi connection, even when you’re traveling around in a foreign country. As per Rebtel website, they will ‘connect you through local phone lines which means you don’t need an internet connection to talk and you never have to worry about bad reception or dropping a call’. How exactly it works is a bit of mystery to us to be honest. We think they reroute the calls through local numbers so that you aren’t charged outrageous international rates.

Rebtel – Cheap International Calls Android App Review

Even though it does not require a WiFi, your phone should receive cellular signals to make the calls. Without cellular coverage, you can’t make the calls. The sound quality is found to be average. But we did not experience any disconnects that is typical in WiFi calls. The simple white and red color scheme looks good. The universally recognized icons at the top do not confuse you either. From the settings, you can perform whatever little customization you might want on your app. We loved how easy it was to find our contacts from the contacts list. Rebtel is also stable.

Final Thoughts

Rebtel – Cheap International Calls app for Android allows you to make internet-free international calls to both mobiles and landlines for next to nothing. For the user, the app provides a cheap means to make international calls while on the move. The sound quality is found to be average, if not great. But the calls, once established, are stable unlike over WiFi. The UI is well designed and easy to use. The customization options are limited at best. The app is also stable and responsive. Check it out if you foresee yourself making lots of international calls in the near future.
