Re:Director for Android is an interesting utility that gives you quick access to your favorite sites. That is, it automatically opens certain apps when clicking on a link in your device’s web browser. No more annoying redirect like twitter opens browser, and browser opens Youtube app etc. Developed by whs.su, Re:Director Android app is available for free download from Google Play Store.

Features

At times, setting up preferences gets a bit more complicated than ideally it should be. Re:Director app for Android gives you total control over redirects so that links go straight to app rather than browser tabs. It should be noted that Re:Director acts as a preference page rather than a standalone app. On opening the app, you could customization settings, and view a variety of options, including a URL journal. This is essentially a browser history function. We experienced little bit of reliability issues while using Re:Director for Android. We’d seen some semi-sporadic crashes and it is tough to pin point them. But they are not to a scale wherein the app is unusable. Developers had already stated that the app is still in the developmental stages. Hopefully, such little issues will be ironed out once the full version is released.

ReDirector Android App Review

Apart from the ability to redirect links to apps, Re:Director for Android also comes with a Learning Mode wherein a dialog popsup wherever you click on a link, therein allowing you to choose which app you want the link to open. It also features a built-in reader JustRead that is capable of fetching article content and renders it into a clear readable format. It could be buggy though as this feature is still under development. Re:Director requires Android OS versions 2.3.3 or higher. Re:Director is a free app. It is supposed to be ad-supported. But we have not seen any ads while using the app.

Final Thoughts

Re:Director for Android essentially offers more control over users’ browsing experience. It does not cost anything to try out the app. Learning Moe and JustRead come across as useful features to any potential user. We’d seen some semi-sporadic crashes. But they aren’t deal breakers and the app is still in the developmental stages. The UI layout and design are user friendly. Last but not the least, keep in mind that you got to make Re:Director a default application to open URLs. Check it out if you’re curious.
