The visuals of Snake Rewind for iPhone are a nice mix of classic and the contemporary. The game retains the large pixilated look of the original, even though it is now done up in flashy colors and lights. It has a neat 3D effect as well. As you progress, you’ll unlock different levels, which are essentially just different themes with no much difference in the game play. The electronic music is fun to listen to. But it overrides the device audio, even if you turn off the sound off fully. It is a bit annoying to say the least. To give some variety, the developers of Snake Rewind had introduced new fruits that give your snake unique powers and effects, such as the magnet that pulls in all fruits towards the snake, super-sizes you, score multipliers etc. This makes the game more interesting and fun to play. You earn a point for each fruit eaten by your snake.
While the game is simple enough, the controls are far from that and it is the biggest flaw the game has. Instead of left/right or top/down buttons, you got to tap on the screen in the direction you want the snake to move. So you’ll end up tapping every inch of your iPhone screen. It can be a bit boring when you have a large sized iPhone like iPhone 6 Plus. At times, the app is also a bit slow to register taps. But swipe controls comes to you rescue, if you’re annoyed with the tap functionality. But people have complained that in certain instances, the app registers non-existent swipes and as a result, the snake runs into the wall, ending the level prematurely. It could be a bug that needs to be rectified. As mentioned, if the snake crashes onto the wall, the game ends. But you can pay some fruits (in-game currency) and ‘rewind’ your snake for a chance to continue. But the more times you rewind, the costlier it becomes. Snake Rewind for iPhone also has missions available that you can attempt to complete in order to unlock and purchase further levels. The game comes with Game Center integration. But it has only has nine achievements and no leaderboards. Snake Rewind requires iOS 8.0 or later.
