TrueCaller App for Android Review

| January 7, 2013 | 3 Comments

TrueCaller app for Android is a caller ID app that shows who is calling if you don’t have the number in your address book. This comes handy if you are getting lots of spam calls of late. And it works on a universal scale. TrueCaller Android App can be downloaded for free of cost.

TrueCaller App Features

TrueCaller app for Android basically looks up unknown incoming numbers and display info about the number. It is a great utility to identify friends whom you’ve not yet added to your address book or simply to avoid telemarketers/political ads during an election. TrueCaller let you look up phone numbers independently or display it on the screen so that you’ll know who the caller is before choosing to answer. The app also got a call block feature that let you block incoming calls from selected numbers.

TrueCaller App for Android

Android TrueCaller app also got a built-in phone book. This feature will come handy if you got a LinkedIn or Facebook account. Usually, most users won’t prefer to include their SNS friends in their contacts as they might not want hundreds of extra names cluttering the address book. But TrueCaller has no such limitations and it’ll display the name of the person if someone from your SNS friend’s list calls you, and you don’t have that number in your phone contact book. However, it should be understood that TrueCaller for Android is only as good as the database backing it. The app does not display incoming numbers that it has not recorded from other users/TrueCaller research. For example, it can’t give reliable results in the case of private numbers.

TrueCaller Android application requires 3G or WiFi connection for Caller ID on incoming calls to work. TrueCaller app is compatible with Android OS versions 2.1 and upwards.

Conclusion

TrueCaller app for Android is a decent CallerId app, but with some limitations. It let you look up anonymous numbers that you do not have in your phone address book. On the downside, the app is not reliable in identifying private numbers even though it manages to guess corporate/public numbers precisely most of the times. TrueCaller will be more useful if you got an active Facebook/LinkedIn account as there’ll be lots of people in your SNS whom you’ve not added to your address book yet to avoid cluttering. Call blocker feature with community blacklist comes handy. Overall, a good CallerId app worth trying out.
