Zite App for Android Review
One major benefit of a personalized magazine is that you can handpick the blogs or articles you want to read. Zite app for Android is one such personalized magazine application that automatically learns what you like and gets smarter every time you use it. You can get Zite Android app for free from Google Play Store.
Zite App Features
Zite app for Android searches the web for the most relevant and latest articles that matches your topic of interest. It won’t display anything that does not suit your preferences. The app uses some intelligent algorithm to collect and evaluate data based on several key factors. For the users, think of a digital magazine that let you choose the topics you want rather than go through pre-formatted contents. Zite has got special sections – such as Business, Sports, Politics, Technology, Health etc – which you can select and customize as you wish. The UI is easy to use with responsive gesture based controls. Interestingly, the app does not have a refresh button. Also, don’t expect to vary the refresh rate; there is no option for user configuration. The same goes for UI theme and layout – you can’t change it.
Android Zite app does not support pinch zoom either. But it has a tool for varying the text size into three different sizes. You can also share your favorite articles with others via Facebook and Twitter. Here comes the most disappointing part. The app does not mark or update your previously read articles. Also, you can’t add a particular article as ‘favorites’ or ‘read later’. Further, Zite does not seem to be optimized for tablets. The app is compatible with Android OS versions 2.1 and up.
Conclusion
Zite app for Android is not a perfect app. It has both good sides and bad sides. It got a stable and easy to use UI and it keeps you up-to-date with the latest news and articles. However, it is not the only app in the market that let you choose the articles you want to read. Flipboard and Feedly seem to fare better as an overall package. Zite has some glaring shortcomings such as lack of customization options, not being a universal app, and its inability to mark or update your previously read articles. Verdict: Decent enough, but not the best in the league.
