Brickies for iPhone is a fresh take on the classic breakout game, with fast paced levels that will leave you thirsty for more action. If you want a brick breaker game, but with some extra challenges, then Brickies might just fit the bill. You can get Brickies for free from iTunes App Store.
Features
The visuals of Brickies for iPhone are simple and clean. The flat aesthetic will have admirers and critics. The soft colored background contrasts nicely with the vibrant colors of the bricks. The animations are slick and smooth. The background score is tranquil and soothing. Brickies game has two modes: Play and Endless. The standard Play mode is based on levels wherein you got to clear the current level to move to the next. You can earn up to three stars depending on the points you manage to rack up. In Endless mode, on the other hand, the screen will be filled up with more Brickies as you clear them out. In essence, it is a high score chaser mode. Irrespective of the modes you choose, keep in mind that there is a timer in the background, and you got only a limited time to clear out the bricks. If you run out of time, you fail that level and you got to try again.
The controls are simple and intuitive. Slide your thumb left/right to move the paddle at the bottom of the screen. There is also a paddle at the top of the screen that moves in sync with the one at the bottom. There are power ups that you unlock as you progress. Hitting them with balls will activate them for a brief amount of time. As you play the game, the ball turns red if you miss the ball, and you won’t be able to break the brickies until it bounces off enough times or you hit it and it turns green again. This can be a bit annoying at times. We also noticed that the ball slows down as the timer goes to red, which in turn further slows you down. Performance wise, the game is stable and responsive. Brickies require iOS 7 or later.
Conclusion
Brickies game for iPhone provides exciting game play over one hundred levels featuring, action, puzzles and tricky bosses. The visuals are gorgeous while the animations are slick and smooth. It would have been more fun to play if the ball had consistent speed all the time. The difficulty levels spike at times, and you got to use the power ups to get out of trouble. Else, you’ll fail. Overall, Brickies is a decent time pass game that people will enjoy playing during breaks. It is not perfect. But it is a deal breaker either. You can check it out if you are a fan of classical brick breaking games.
