Description:

The Cellumap – Cellular Coverage Maps Android app is a great way for you to be able to see what kind of coverage you get in your area.  You can create a map and view it on the official site.

Features:

  • This is a cool little app that allows you to take your GSM, CDMA, and UMTS information and upload it.
  • This information includes things like your signal strength, your cellular ID, and also the GPS location information
  • Once all of this is uploaded then you can view it in real time by going to the cellumap website at www.cellumap.com
  • The pros to this app are that you can easily map your current cellular coverage while using it
  • The app is crowd-sourced and it is actually also very easy to use so you won’t have too many problems trying to get it to work right (as long as the app is in the forefront)
  • The app is also cross platform and it actually works and supports information in over 80 different countries
  • There is also one last mode for the people who are technically advanced and can handle engineering verbiage.

Conclusion:

Although this app isn’t considered a must have for your Android phone, it nevertheless delivers enough to be worth looking at.  The idea is very simple, it allows cell phone users to be able to provide a coverage map for all of the cellular areas from their own data.  Cellumap has a website out there that allows you to pick which country, provider, and also the level of technology that you want to put on top of a map based on the Google Maps photo.  All you have to do is download the app, pull up the screen with all of the data and then submit your data through either the Data 1X or the Auto-Send.  The only cons to this app is that the app will only send out the data if it is currently in the foreground.  Also, the coverage map that you create can’t actually be pulled up and viewed on your mobile phone, you actually have to go to the website in order to see what the coverage map looks like.  Last of all, the app is very crowd- sourced so it can be a bit of an annoyance.

Android users that have tried this app have given this app 3.5 out of 5 stars.  Although the rating is not the best out there, the nice thing about the app is that it is completely free for you to download.
