Journey – Diary, Journal app for Android, wants you to rediscover the joys of writing about your life through the “warmth and humanity” of its beautiful UI. This is a journaling app, but after spending a few moments with it, you will concur with its creators that the design undoubtedly makes you want to initiate documenting your life adventures. Journey is a free Android app.

Features

Journey – Diary, Journal Android app features a material design-like interface in parts. The top navigation bar screams MD, as does the tablet interface, but the rest of the UI should be very familiar to those who have used Android apps at all over the last couple of years. There is a slide out navigation drawer, “+” button to add new posts, action overflow menus to access more options, and simple swipe navigation to get between entries. In terms of features, Journey – Diary, Journal comprises Markdown shortcuts, a word and character counter, facility to add photos, keyboard shortcuts, night mode, is ad free, and syncs all of your entries across devices through Google Drive. You can search by keyword, create tags, add geotags to entries, cloud print or print-to-PDF, and share with anyone.

There are more than a few different viewing modes for finding entries on the fly. There’s the default mode which features full screen snapshots of your entries – complete with weather, tags, photos, text, print and share options– that is sorted chronologically, a calendar mode which allows you to pick entries by selecting them on a good-looking calendar, a photo mode that presents your entries as thumbnails and an atlas mode represented by Google Maps. If Journey – Diary, Journal is pulling double duty for you, and acting as a notebook as well as a journal, browsing by tag and searching are enormous helps. There are some in-app purchases to unlock some of the special features, Markdown shortcuts, night mode, etc, but the majority of the app is free. You can also share your entries with the rest of the world by exporting your entries as either plain text, HTML, or a printable PDF.

Conclusion

Journey – Diary, Journal for Android is a free app, but it does have an in-app purchase that unlocks full Markdown support, a night mode, the ability to print your entries (or save as PDF), and export your journal out of the app.
