Letterpress App for iPhone Review

Letterpress app for iPhone is a funny yet challenging word game for iOS in general. It is more like chess than Scrabble wherein the pieces are letters and moves replaced by words in your vocabulary. You can get this two-player game for free from iTunes App Store.

Letterpress App Features

Letterpress iPhone app is a beautifully designed game with a minimalistic appearance. The game’s approach is unique – a sort of mash up of Strategery and Boggle —and hence it takes some time to master the rules. Once you manage it, the game will be impossibly addictive. At the beginning of the game, you’ll be presented with a 5×5 grid of assorted letters. You can use any of the letters to build a word. The letter tiles need not have to be adjacent. You just tap from anywhere. Once you submit your word, the tiles you’d used turns into blue. Now it is the turn of your opponent and the tiles he/she uses turns pink. Of course, you are not allowed to reuse words. I.e. if you’d used the word ‘exponents’, your opponent can’t use ‘exponent’ either. The words that existed as prefixes of a previously used word also can’t be used again.

Players can reclaim letters by using them in their next turn or protect them by surrounding them with your color. A letter that is so surrounded develops a dark shade. This is a key strategic element in Letterpress – trying to box in your own tiles to lock their color, and at the same time, scheming to unblock your opponent’s tiles. Once all the tiles are colored in, one whose color is attached to the most wins the game. The game play is of tactics and ingenuity wherein knowing the longest word is not always going to be important than knowing where to put it. It is challenging and exciting as your fortunes depends equally on your opponent’s next move. The graphics is appealing.

Conclusion

Letterpress app for iPhone is a brilliant little game that appeals more to puzzle lovers than guts and gun brigade. It is asynchronous gaming at its best. You got to have a decent vocabulary to keep going. It is also about strategy and planning. The graphics is good. Verdict: Check it out if you love word puzzlers.
