WeTransfer Android App Review
No list of apps for sharing large files would be complete without WeTransfer for Android. It’s been around since 2009 and has long-been one of the market leaders in the cloud-based sharing sector. WeTransfer app is available for free download from Google Play.
Features
WeTransfer app for Android does one thing, and that’s all it cares to do. It lets users share files up to 10GB in size without having to sign up for an account. With each transfer, the app asks your email address, a recipient’s, and a short note to go along with the file. This is the kind of service that gets tucked away behind the Android share menu (functionality the other version obviously lacks) and only surfaces when you need it. That’s not to put it to somebody that the core app isn’t worthy of some attention. Its presentation is slick, and as your file uploads, various backgrounds appear to keep your eyes looking at something more than a slowly moving bar (or in this case, a circle). Unlike point-to-point sharing, the technology supporting the app means the developers have had to impose a maximum file size. In WeTransfer’s case, this is 10 GB.
A word of caution, if you’re using this app on 3G rather than WiFi, you could find that your upload speeds are a lot slower and that your data plan is eaten up extremely fast — though it’s worth mentioning that uploads can be paused and restarted as you require. WeTransfer Android app has one huge advantage – it does not require both the sender and the receiver to have the app installed. Instead, you can share a file with anyone as long as you know their email address. It’s easy to see how this could be expanded to social media sharing — but that’s not yet an attribute.
Registration isn’t a requisite, but if you want to store and keep track of your downloads, you can do so with a Plus account for $120 a year.
Conclusion
Sending large files is one of the most daunting tasks you can do. There are a lot of ways you can transfer files over the internet and WeTransfer Android app surely, is one of the best ones. Cloud-based sharing may not have a prospect in the long-term, but right now it still has a significant role to play. Even though the process might be slower than the point-to-point offerings, WeTransfer has a huge gain over other apps.
