Description:

$200 bucks and you can purchase a really nice police scanner or you could use this iPhone App to get the same great live news from police scanners and firefighters.  The app also allows you to monitor marine, emergency, aircraft and ham radios.  If there are any major events happening in town, you will know before anyone else.  This app is on version 18.0 and has been receiving some great reviews from the scanner community.  The app can be entertaining, but professional and volunteer civil servants can use this app to stay up to date when they are not on duty.

This isn’t for the kids though unless you don’t mind them hearing some really frank speech and some vulgarity.  It’s a free country and ham operators can often times use that free speech right.  This great app was developed by Dr. James Leung and it has already received some terrific response with over 2 million downloads.  The app is also available on the iPad.  There is a pay app version for 1.99 that includes additional feeds and adds a search feature that allows for keyword and feed position memory.

If you hate traffic and don’t want to sit through a lot of commercials and music just to find out what is going on, then you can use this app to find out before others about any traffic incidents.  This makes this app a great time saver!

Conclusion:

As important as having a flashlight, this police scanner can come in handy more often than you might think.  Stay up to date with live info right from the scene!  Police and Fire scanners can run from $50-$200 or more, and this great little app.  You can listen to police or fire feeds in the background while using other apps and if the feed drops it will automatically try to reconnect.  There is an integrated map feature that shows you’re the location of the radio feed giving you the ability to track the action.

You can also save your favorite feeds to the front screen of this app which gives you quick access.  As new feeds become available, this app can locate and auto adds them.  One of the best new features is the browser that allows you to grab feeds and listen to them from the internet.  You can even share a feed with a friend that doesn’t have the app.  With world coverage, the developer is continually adding new features and expanding the amount of feeds that can be listened to.
